We are excited to announce that we are in the early stages of buying the land that the building sits on. This process is called a Community Asset Transfer. The situation at Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre is that we own the building but not the land. Owning the land will give us much more autonomy and we can become more ambitious in how we use our space. For instance we can extend the building, or convert our garden into whatever our community wants. We are so fortunate to have such a lovely piece of land and a beautiful building.
We will keep you updated on progress. At moment, we have Douglas Westwater from Community Enterprise undertaking the next stage of this process, which involves a large community consultation which we hope you will get involved in, and updating our business plan to take into account the land ownership. Douglas will be hosting a community consultation soon, please get involved and share your views.
Delighted to hear Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre is considering community ownership. This could help to safeguard the future of a much-loved community asset. No doubt there will be challenges ahead (as there have been in the past!) but it would be great to see the Centre’s future secured for generations to come.
